EPIC LESSON OF EPIC-NESS two unit lesson or a year long project in an advanced class: 1st unit: On playwriting (or something where you are studying a certain play). 2ns unit: the first lesson would be an assessment of what the students already know. We would have a Technology Scavenger Hunt. Each clue is found through some Technology source or genre (facebook, cell phone, blog, ipad, etc). The rest of the unit would be centered around using different types of media to devise various endings for the play that you worked on in the last unit. Perform this piece as an end of the year showcase. The audience could vote on the different endings (on facebook or what have you).
Note: think of time and space. You might want to create a theatre company class (give them a name), so as to unify the students.
If there is any confusion or clarification that needs to be added feel free to comment on this post. THANKS!!!
-Have the students track the media they use for an entire week. They will take note of the different types of media they encounter on a daily basis and how much time you spend with them
-our second idea was using these media diaries to create a character background. If you were playing an old man have the students investigate what media that character would use. When this character was growing up what movies did they go see, how frequently did they go, what music did they enjoy and how is the media they use now different. With this research it gives the student a better knowledge of that character you would be playing.
have the students look at all the different pictures on the website and then give the students the following assignment.
Have them take a series of pictures of something in their community and then do a research project on that location. Have them discover the history of this location. What was it like 30 years ago and how has it changed over the years an how does that affect the meaning. We would have each of these locations mapped on a map with GPS locations. The final product would look like this--- students will have there displayed pictures with a map of where they are located and then a summary of what the place was like in past and present and the meaning from this analysis.
